Natur gilt als das Gegenteil der Kunst und ist gleichzeitig eines ihrer Hauptmotive. Kunst eröffnet uns mit ihren Medien neue Zugänge zur Natur. Aber was genau verstehen wir heute noch unter »Natur«? Die Publikation Ferne Nähe untersucht am Beispiel von 23 internationalen Künstlerinnen und Künstlern, wie die Kunst der Gegenwart Natur als das Eigene und das Andere, das Vertraute und das Fremde imitiert, verfremdet, erforscht, wie sie dabei über sich selbst nachdenkt und zugleich die Natur als elementare Kraft beschwört. Installationen, Objekte, Gemälde, Fotos, Filme zeigen »Natur« als kulturelle Konstruktion, als Projektionsfläche von Ideen, Werten und Gefühlen, letztlich als unsere Erfindung. Nature is seen as the contrary of art and at the same time one of its main motifs. With its media, art opens up to us new approaches to nature. But what exactly do we still understand by “nature”? The publication Ferne Nähe (“Distant Closeness”) uses the example of 23 international artists to examine how contemporary art imitates, defamiliarizes, and explores nature as “own” and “other”, and how in the process it reflects on itself and invokes nature as the elemental force. Installations, sculptures, paintings, photographs, and films show “nature” as a cultural construct, a projection surface for ideas, values and emotions, and not least as our own invention.
